Waiting periods vary by insurance carrier, and some set different time frames depending on the type of vet visit. Hartville has a straightforward, 14-day waiting period for all services, which is faster than many other companies. Wellness coverage is effective immediately.

Expert Insights

Is Hartville Pet Insurance good?

"In our Hartville Pet Insurance review, we found that customers love how they can use their insurance policy at any licensed vet in the U.S. without dealing with network restrictions or referrals. Enrollment is available to all pets at least eight weeks old, unlike other companies with eligibility restrictions for senior pets.

If you're interested in advanced, alternative, or holistic veterinary care, then Hartville may be a great option for you. The Complete Coverage plan includes costs related to services such as stem-cell therapy, acupuncture, hydrotherapy, and more, which are commonly excluded elsewhere.

Finally, we love that Hartville will cover pre-existing conditions if no symptoms have been present for 180 days and orthopedic conditions can be covered in as little as two weeks, considering other carriers often implement waiting periods of 6 months or more."

Peace of Mind

I bought insurance for our new puppy because my wife wanted it. I only needed basic, just in case. I liked the options that you gave and it’s for piece of mind, just in case we need it for a major surgery. I expected it to cost more, nice surprise.

Good Service

For the most part the claims are processed quickly and I never have any trouble putting through my claims. My dog is really sick right now and it helps to have this coverage even though it won't be sufficient to cover the whole surgery.
